Spinone Italiano-a sporting breed

Asti & Sherwin Sherwin
was a born hunter. He hunted with GSP and other breeds he could no longer
remember. As illness forced Sherwin to a hospice, he missed his dogs that had
been at his side most of his life. As his family rarely visited him he became
very lonely. One day he met a Therapy Dog named Asti.
Asti visited him on a regular basis. Sherwin looked forward to Asti's visits and
would wait at the main entrance for 10 AM to roll around as Asti would come
loping up to put that giant Spinone head for Sherwin to pat. Time went on and
Sherwin had to use a cane, then a walker and finally a wheelchair. As Asti made
his rounds to see many patients, Sherwin became his Master with Retriever at his
side. They went to visit everyone together. Sherwin even went into the onsite
beauty shop just so Asti would be with him. Asti's picture had a very special
place on Sherwin's dresser. On Valentine's Day Sherwin was not at the main door.
As Asti made his way to Sherwin's room to see where his Hunting Buddy was, he
stopped short to find Sherwin in bed. As he moved his giant webbed paws over to
check out his friend, Asti went and put his head on Sherwin's chest. Truly was a
picture of a man and his hunting dog. There was a very private conversation
between them. Today once again Sherwin was not waiting at the door. Off Asti
lumbered down the hallway to Sherwin's room. The room had been emptied of all
personal belongings. Asti sat and looked all around, bowed his head and slowly
left the room. He now knew what Sherwin had known 2 weeks ago. Bless all the
Therapy Dogs. Editor's Note: There are 2 Grouse Rouster dogs involved in this rewarding work as therapy dogs. We are very proud of Asti and Ty! They are brothers in the true sense of the word, both from our 2nd litter. We are also proud of their owners for sharing their beautiful dogs and spreading joy into the lives of others. |
