| I adopted one
of your rescue dogs back in 1998. Her name was Ellie but our then young
daughters kept pronouncing it Abbey so she became Abbey.
I'm writing to let you
know that our beloved Abbey passed away on Valentine's Day of this year. I
meant to let you know sooner but each time I've tried to write to you it's
just been too hard. I miss her as much today as I did the day she died.
She was 9 years old and she was my "Abbey-Dog" and I loved her
with all my heart.
Everyone who came to our
home commented on what a remarkable dog she was. She was so unassuming and
well mannered. Best of all was the way she took care of our family. She
always made sure she knew where the girls were when they were little. They
are now 13 & 15 and they, along with my husband, were broken hearted
when we had to euthanize her.
Abby
had bad hips. We had always thought that at some point in her life she
would have to have surgery. However, we had her X-rayed periodically and
pampered her throughout her life (she was an inside dog and she had an
heated orthopedic bed) and her hips were really just starting to be a
problem just before she died. As a matter of fact it was when we were
doing a set of X-rays of her hips that we discovered that she had cancer.
The cancer was quite a large mass and I'm sure it must have been causing
her some discomfort. However, she was such a stoic dog she just never let
on that there was a problem until she started having a hard time getting
up.
I'm not sure I'm ready
yet for another dog but I was hoping you would consider putting me on a
waiting list in case you were to ever get another Spinoni that needed to
be rescued. I'm asking to be put on the list now because I'm guessing you
don't get a lot of rescue dogs.
Our other dog's name is
Zuec and he loved Abbey too. They always slept cuddled up together. I know
he still misses her too. We were so lucky to have Abbey as a role model
for him. He has turned into a wonderful dog too and I know it is because
of growing up with her. Thank you so much for letting us have Abbey
in our life and please consider us if another Spinoni is in need of
rescue.
