Lena is a
hunting female of great stamina and stature. She is sturdy, and
well-proportioned (note her underbelly profile). She has a great nose and
does a thorough job of working a side to side pattern in the field. With a
soft mouth, she will retrieve in or out of water.
She has intense hunting instincts and is always on the alert for game.
She has a
proper Spinone coat-coarse, dense, straight, thick-skinned, no undercoat,
and about 1 1/2 inches long on her back. Her legs do not have excessive
hair, which is desirable for a field dog. She has the right amount of
facial hair-nice beard, whiskers and brows. She 'cleans up' easily after a
day of picking up burrs in the field, with a quick comb through.
She has a
wonderful, calm nature, a very polite disposition. Of course, every dog
has its faults. Lena loves to empty the trash can, shred paper, sneak into
'forbidden' territory in the house, and yip when she demands something.
And don't forget about the wet beard that holds about 2 cups of mud!
